Ashlee Simpson has filed for divorce from husband of almost three years, Pete Wentz. TMZ reports Ashlee cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason and is asking for joint legal custody of their two-year-old son Bronx, as well as primary physical custody.
Ashlee is also requesting spousal and child support from Pete. The former couple reportedly have no prenup.
Pete, 31, and Ashlee, 26, were married in May 2008 and were often spotted out with their baby Bronx. Friends of Ashlee are blaming the split on Pete’s “erratic behavior” and his desire to stay in the entertainment business. Pete’s camp claims they just grew apart. Friends of both agree no third party was involved.
The couple released a joint statement, which we obtained through Pete’s rep: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives.”
Sources close to Pete say he wants not only joint legal but joint physical custody of Bronx, so that might prove to be an issue.
