Must Wear Red Day 2011 :If You Want to Support the Fight Against Heart Disease

It’s Wear Red Day 2011! The American Heart Association started the tradition of “Go Red” in 2004 as a way to show support in the fight against heart disease. Since then, it’s become a yearly event that continues to grow. Aside from regular folks, some companies across the country have jumped on the bandwagon of Wear Red Day. The Milwaukee Art Museum, the Marquette Interchange, and the Overture Center in Madison will all be lit up in red come February 4th.

February is American Heart Month and Go Red for Women is kicking it off in style on February 4, 2011, with National Wear Red Day. Go Red for Women was created by the American Heart Association in 2004. The organization is a call to action–encouraging, educating, and empowering women to understand their risk factors for heart disease and change the course of their future. Heart disease still leads the pack as the number one killer of women, taking the lives of one out of every three women in the United States. Go Red for Women is committed to changing those statistics. On February 4th, you have the perfect opportunity to help spread the word. Men and women alike are encouraged to show their support and help to raise awareness of heart disease in women by wearing red.

Andrea Brinkman, with the Midwest Affiliate of the American Heart Association, stated:

“We know that this is a big weekend for the Green Bay Packers; we just ask that you throw on a red accessory or a red dress pin or something to signify that you support National Wear Red Day and educating others about preventing heart disease.”
