Paul McCartney wrote "Silly Love Songs" as an answer both to his former songwriting partner John Lennon and to the music critics who criticized him for writing trifles about love. The song was released in 1976 on the Paul McCartney and the Wings, "Wings at the Speed of Sound" album.
Paul McCartney & Wings were also known as Wings were formed in 1971 (a year after the Beatles officially broke up) and continued until 1981 despite many changes in the membership of the band. The only constant members were Paul McCartney, his wife Linda and Denny Laine. All nine of the albums produced by Wings went to the top ten either in the U.S. or the U.K.
